MISHAP & PHONIK OPS
Mishap and Phonik Ops are an MC/DJ duo hailing from Canada’s West Coast. Both were born and raised in the Okanagan but first met in Vancouver where they’re currently based. The two joined forces after recognizing their parallel outlook on hip-hop and its culture, since then they’ve been on a mission to restore the long lost partnership between the MC and the DJ.
Their latest project, the “Sight and Sound EP” (entirely produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by the duo) was welcomed with positive reviews. HipHopCanada.com stated that“Mishap’s detailed lyrics combined with Phonik Ops’ skilled scratching and original beat making has created a refreshing Northcoast sound”. Since its release, Mishap and Phonik Ops have been continuously building their name within the independent circuit, sharing the stage with notable West Coast acts such as Sweatshop Union, Snak the Ripper, and Geologic (of Blue Scholars). The songs “A Hip-Hop Sunset”, “Life is Like” and “The City” were all featured on KRS-One’s Temple of Hip-Hop on Shadesradio.com. Their visually stunning music video for “The City”, a collaborative effort with director Robert Johansen, garnered much acclaim while showcasing just how much the duo can do on an independent budget. With their laid-back, fun and natural approach, Mishap and Phonik Ops breathe new life into the definition of what a hip-hop act is.
