Ricco – Rock The Boat Valentine’s Day Mix
- Posted By: Korben Dallas

Indeed it is Valentine’s Day and what better a way to celebrate the famous martyr, Saint Valentine, than by listening to music that was produced with one thing in mind … makin’ love. Ricco has whipped up a buttery little mix for us that features some of the chilliest, laidback, R&B-meets-electronic jams that we’ve all been grooving to as of late as well as some classics that every break-up or make-up just can’t be experienced without. Inspired by the act of sex (actually) we encourage this mix to be played whilst getting down, before getting down, or that moment after you’ve gotten down and you’re trying to break that awkward silence (which may ultimately lead to more getting down). Regardless of when played, we approve and hope you enjoy this very special mix on this very special day. A word from Ricco:
“Besides sex, this mix actually means a few more things to me. I’ve been playing around with Abelton for a few months now and, besides being confused as to why I haven’t been playing with Abelton sooner, am amazed at how powerful the program is. You normally can’t manipulate music as much on turntables and for years I’ve had ideas regarding how I’d want music I hear to sound a bit different then its supposed to be played at. Abelton gives you that manipulation tool and this mix is just the beginning for me as I have already started to test the waters of producing my own music under a new alias, J∆ck∆L. This mix also commemorates the passing away of a close family member of mine on Feb 13, 2001 (RIP). Some of the emotional aspects of the music in this mix had me thinking about that family member at times and I wanted to partly dedicate this mix to her. Lastly, this mix was partly inspired by a person I had the pleasure of spending time with and some of the memories that I will keep with me. Call it sappy, cheesy, lovey, or chill, I’m just excited about this mix and what it means. I hope you enjoy.”
“I’d like to thank everyone, especially my Slowdjs.com team for all their help over the last few years and also thank those who helped me navigate my way around Abelton for this.”

The well respected Detroit techno and house music enthusiast, Stacey Pullen, has recently come out with an Essential mix for BBC Radio One. We’ve listened to this mix about 100 times since it came out and we highly recommend you do the same. If you know your electronic music, you’ll know that Pullen’s incorporation of house and garage with techno has been cited as an influence on later electronic artists. Download and enjoy.

Claude VonStroke has been a staple in the dance music scene for some time now. There are very few electronic artists these days that possess the unique ability to keep true to their underground sound without conforming to what will get them radio play. Claude has not only been on the scene for longer than a “hit track” but continues to push boundaries in all things House while running a successful label, dirtybird. Here is a snatch of a mix he did for BBC Radio one in 2007. Its one of our favs.

Back in the early 2000′s Z-Trip and Dj Radar put out a live mix at Future Primitive, San Francisco. It was one of the first times r i c c o had heard about Z-Trip and he immediately became obsessed with Z’s effortless scratches as well as his crate digger mentality. R i c c o has held onto this mix over the years and finally let us have it for the site. Check out Z-Trip HERE. Of course check out our Slowdjs.com fanpage HERE. Enjoy the mix.

A word from our love music lover, Erica Dee:
“Last Friday morning I woke up a lil sleepy after a long night of dancing for Cinco De Mayo, and decided to record a little DJ mix while cooking up some sweet potato home-fries and turkey bacon. Tis a sloppy, tasty, spontaneous mix inspired to cure a tequila after-bite, I hope you enjoy. I also designed the album artwork myself!” – Erica Dee

CLICK ON THEIR QUESTIONABLE FACES TO PLAY & DOWNLOAD THE MIX. Welcome to the “oh hi” mixtape with ricco & vinnie. They kindly ask that you evaluate this mix. Factors considered in the evaluation should include: academic performance, demonstrated leadership skills, active participation in extra-curricular activities, significant awards and achievements, reference contacts and personal statements. Since this mix clearly does not demonstrate any of those characteristics, THEY FAIL!!! Like us on Facebook HERE. Find the track-listing HERE. The artist that turned ricco & vinnie into creepy pancake breath people (not that they’re not normally creepy pancake breath people) is KRISTIAN ADAM, thank you Kristian! Big pat on the back to Fortune Sound Club, Ayden Gallery, Exhibit Apparel and The Grounded T.V. Network for their support.

Vinnie is NOT a player nor does he have a black book or make it rain in the club. What he is however is a decent producer and so girls like these just follow him around. We caught up with Vinnie at work and he mentioned that “It actually gets a little annoying. I never have any alone time and girls just follow me like I’m one of the guys in the AXE commercials.” Poor guy. Feel free to download these tracks, then you might see where these girls are coming from:
