<itunes:summary>One part sexy robot and one part aerobics instructor, 25 year old Matt Dauncey has managed to find the middle ground between music and athletics. By harnessing the power of wrestling suits, tennis sweatbands, vintage synthesizers, and electric guitar, Neighbour has tapped into an ancient power-source that has given him the capacity to conjure up frenzied dancefloors wherever he is needed. Through a mysterious process that involves not one, but TWO gigantic crystals, the Homebreakin Records co-owner has managed to combine the raw ecstacy of the early days of disco with razor-sharp futuristic production.

His hybrid DJ / live performance tore across the continent this year, culminating in an incredible series of festival dates across western Canada, including headlining slots at Shambhala 2009, Soundwave, Bass Coast Project, Astral Harvest, and Summer Break. In addition to playing almost 100% original production and remixes, Neighbour plays live synthesizer and electric guitar alongside his legendary DJ sets, which range from no-nonsense electric funk bangers to gorgeous technicolor remixes of classic garage, disco, and house music.

Not one to be pigeonholed, Neighbour has spent the better part of the last two years collaborating with everyone in sight. Upcoming dancehall tracks with Calgary’s Ouda Ouda, boogie-raps with fellow performer MC Think Tank, and an unbelievable slate of remixes and original releases guarantee that as soon as you think you know that “Neighbour Sound”, it has grown into something completely different.

Some people say that dance music isn’t as fun as it used to be; then again, some people haven’t seen a grown man in a unitard shoot lazers out of his guitar far away into the night sky.
A few words from Neighbour:

"This is a 90-odd minute mix I did right here in my living room, using 2 Turntables and a Rane TTM57. No edits or fixes, just a raw session from the East Van headquarters. Some new exclusives from Nurvous, Fort Knox, and Homebreakin, along with some stuff i've been loving all year.

Who is Sampha?

One of the best listening experiences of last year was SBTRKT’s self titled debut album. While the instrumental and guest vocals were on point, it was really the voice of one dude that held it all together. That dude was Sampha, an R&B singer from London unknown at the time in most dubstep circles. That has all changed though. Sampha who featured on SBTRKT’s album, is now someone most would actually consider a working member of SBTRKT. In fact when I saw them play a few weeks ago, Sampha introduced themselves as SBTRKT. The evolution of SBTRKT, from mainly instrumental to future R&B has been interesting, but what’s more, is the sound Sampha calls home. Check him out below.

This half-British/half-German bass freak embraces her quirky roots in UK Garage, while scratching the surface of Deutschland for her first Slowdjs podcast.

The VHS was Amanda’s first creative music medium while still in her single digits. Her insatiable thirst for the freshest music pushed her to create video mixtapes from tapping into MuchMusic at all hours. Amanda’s additional experience with woodwind instruments led a natural transition from bedroom DJ to the dance floor, allowing efficacious beat-matching from square one, with her first love in UK Garage classics. Public performances started as a teen, in Nelson, BC, distributing demos on burnt out cassette tapes. Over the years as the DJ profession has changed drastically, Amanda has successfully co-evolved with technology, striving to create more interactive experiences. Amanda’s influence on the scene was quite prevalent as a co-founder of the Flydjs initiative beginning in 2005, Kelowna, BC. JGirl as founder and partner led impactful projects such as female DJ lessons which resulted many successful women in the DJ scene when they were scarce, still active today from the first lessons. Inspired by her professional training as a Designer, her work has taken a strong direction into audio and visual. As she sees it, there is so much potential in the club space. No more stock videos! Her recent work takes form of playful illustrative narratives, but doesn’t end there. This past year she has collaborated with DigitalSoundboy.com to create visuals, including a visual reel for their entire Glastonbury Festival performance. As a DJ, Amanda will always represent her Westcoast culture but nothing compares to the education of performing globally. Travel has added plenty of sophistication to her brand, heavily influenced by the UK and Germany.

<itunes:summary>Amanda Rude brings you a groovy, deep fuse of house and garage specifically for the sophisticated bass lover's appetite.

Long considered one of Vancouver’s best party-rocking DJs, SOO has spent the last decade perfecting his craft and honing his skills – mixing, cutting, scratching and blending a wide range of different styles while keeping heads nodding and bodies moving.

Having supported a virtual who’s who list of talent (including such diverse artists as Q-Bert, Z-Trip, Mix Master Mike, Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Numark, Lorin Bassnectar, the Stanton Warriors, Shy FX, and many more), been involved in countless residencies, and having played in venues around the world, SOO has garnered an international reputation as being one of Canada’s most diverse, skilled, and original DJs. Equally at home in front of a packed dancefloor as he is an intimate lounge, SOO is known as much for his unique musical selection as the intricate manner in which he weaves the music together. This skill and technique lead to DJ SOO winning the 2009 Vancouver Megablend DJ competition – a contest that featured over 40 local Djs.

Fresh off his inaugural US tour, DJ SOO is keeping himself busy: playing a wide assortment of gigs, touring, creating a steady flow of acclaimed mixtapes, throwing parties with the Super Happy Dance Deejay crew, or performing one of his legendary 4- turntable sets with longtime collaborator DJ Wood. In addition, SOO has been sequestering himself in the studio to create more original productions and remixes – many of which have been receiving support from DJs around the world. 2011 has been a big year for SOO with 4 tracks signed and 2012 looks to be even bigger. Merely 2 months into the year, DJ SOO has already had two chart topping releases hit #1! His first vinyl release – a devastating bass-heavy re-imagining of the classic Grandmaster Flash track The Message hit #1 on the Juno Breakbeat/Electro vinyl charts within days. His first collaboration with DJ WOOD released on the Tremendo Records Vol 2 EP helped propel the EP to #1 in the overall sales Charts on Juno Download within a week.

Never content to simply follow trends of the day, SOO thrives on broadening his own musical horizons in an endless search for new music and styles to keep even the most jaded of partiers firmly entrenched on the dance-floor. SOO brings with him a palate of music that covers a wide spectrum of styles – forward-thinking underground sounds, familiar classics, soulful rare groove, banging club hits, and much more – all mixed seamlessly to perfection with a healthy dose of turntablism added for good measure. Whether at a club, lounge, rave, or house party, having SOO behind the decks is a guarantee for a rump-shaking good time.

What can you say about Jai Paul? He released a demo from 2007 about a year back and set the internet on fire. Since then? Nothing.. Until this week, another demo titled, “Jasmine” was released on his soundcloud. Again the internet is on fire, but will we get more than just a demo this time? We’re hopeful for a game changing LP. After all, he is signed to XL; a label that has given us music from The XX, Adele, Tyler the Creator and Gil-Scott Heron among other greats. Only time will tell….
