Vol. 025 – A-Mac

Calgary, Canada’s A-Mac has impressed since the moment he announced himself on the 108bpm scene. His take on A-Trak’s remix of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Heads Will Roll helped put North America’s Pacific Northwest on the map as a hotbed for tropical bass’ progression, and positioned himself as one of the pioneers of the Moombahton sound. Fast forward two years and the development is obvious. Attending SXSW in recent years has seen him perform at Mad Decent’s 2012 Moombahton Massive and 2011’s XLR8R Peligrosa party. Sharing the stage at these events with the worlds top DJ’s including Diplo, Craze, Brodinski, Toddla T, Dave Nada, Sabo, Toy Selecta, and Dillon Francis. A-Mac’s weekly Friday night residency at Calgary’s respected HIFI Club combined with a frequent touring and release schedule, position him as one of the busiest and consistently progressive artists coming out of Canada’s west coast. Past releases and remixes on labels such as T&A Records, Top Billin, and Burner have seen a great deal of success with his most recent Horizon EP peaking at #13 on the Beatport house releases top 100 chart. Recently signed to the UK’s Birth Records the stage is set for A-Mac to take his signature sound to across North America, Europe and beyond.

Vol. 016 – Willisist

Since 2007 Willisist has been a major player in Vancouver’s bass music scene, heading the SHAHdjs for a DnB revival across the city.  Producing well over 100 shows he’s had opening and closing slots for the likes of Netsky, Noisia, Sub Focus,  Dub Fx, Alix Perez, Pendulum, Drumsound, Sate of Mind, as well as countless local nights and 3 years running at Bass Coast Festival.  He’ll bring the heat when it’s needed, but melodic, smooth, emotional tunes are where his soul is.  For the love of drum and bass.

It wasn’t long after they met when First Date realized they should be banging out soulful music together. They share an instant chemistry, not only with each other but with the dance floor as well. With their mutual unwillingness to familiarize with genre elitism, First Date can be found playing everything under the sun. Inspired by the earlier sounds of New York, Chicago, Detroit and The UK, they are known to mix up a concoction of modern day underground dance music with respect to the pioneers who made dance music what it is today.
